Mr. David O'Brart has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in private practice and at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 1996. The Guy's and St Thomas' group contain one of the world's leading medical schools and the Ophthalmology Department has an excellent reputation both in the UK and internationally. Mr O'Brart was the director of Glaucoma and Corneal Laser and Refractive Surgery within this department from 1996 to 2006 and has now moved to become the director of Refractive, Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery.
  
Following his qualification as an Ophthalmic Surgeon in 1990, he trained in corneal and small-incision cataract surgery. He spent two years at the United Medical and Dental Schools, University of London, investigating the role of Excimer Laser Refractive and Corneal surgery. This research lead to the completion of a Doctorate in Medicine, over seventy publications in leading peer-reviewed Ophthalmic journals and an international reputation in the field of corneal laser and refractive surgery.

Upon completion of his surgical training at St. Thomas' Hospital, London and Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, he undertook a fellowship with Professor Weinreb at the internationally renowned Shiley Eye centre in San Diego, California, where he studied advanced techniques in Glaucoma.
Mr. O'Brart is a council member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons having recently been re-elected to the council for the second time. He has arranged and chaired numerous symposia on refractive and corneal surgery and glaucoma at national and international meetings and is regular invited speaker at such meetings. He has co-authored a book on corneal topography and contributed numerous chapters to international books on refractive surgery. He is a member of the microsurgical skills committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and regular surgical teacher. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists both for their general and specialist refractive surgical examinations. He continues to take an active interest in research in both the field of refractive and corneal surgery, intraocular lens technology and glaucoma. In addition to running a busy NHS practice, he also consults from the Westminster Bridge Consulting Rooms at St. Thomas' Hospital and the Arnott Eye Associates in Harley Street. He specialises in Refractive Surgery, Corneal and Anterior Segment Medicine and Surgery, Small-incision Cataract Surgery and Glaucoma.
